Scottish Continuity has a vacancy for Treasurer and Director of Scottish Continuity: You should apply!
So, why should you consider volunteering as our new Treasurer? Well by far the biggest benefit for this role is getting to know the entirety of our membership across Scotland. You'll be the main point of contact with the membership for all Scottish Continuity matters - and they'll get to know you too. It's great knowing who folk are, what folk are thinking and helping make that community happen.
What we do: Over its near 30-year existence, the not-for-profit membership organisation, Scottish Continuity, has provided numerous high quality learning events and conferences for its members and subscribers. That persistent effort comes from a dedicated and resilient Scottish Continuity Board and a host of volunteers working together for the advancement of resilience. The board decides (with membership input) on current hot topics and the best way for them to be disseminated/ by whom/ and where – annual conference or small learning event or website blog.
To make these events happen we need cash and that comes from membership fees, from conference sponsors and exhibitors. Scottish Continuity Ltd cannot exist without cash and it's the Treasurer role that makes that happen.
Role Description: Treasurer & Director of Scottish Continuity
Purpose of the Role: The Treasurer (and Director of Scottish Continuity Ltd - we need a Director for the company to exist) is part of the Board and helps set the strategic direction of Scottish Continuity and helps both with the finances and with doing things like engaging with sponsors, putting name badges in badge-holders for the conference and approaching potential speakers on behalf of Scottish Continuity.
Responsibilities:
• The role does require a wee bit of time to carry out, that's par for the course, and there's some compensation for that in an honorarium of £100/month. Some months that won't mean very much but as we lead up to a conference that can mean a few hours each week to keep things going. We also use tools like Freeagent for money management to try and make invoicing and maintaining our accounts easier.
• Scottish Continuity also has an external accountant who will provide independent reivew of our income and expenditure and submit that information to Comapnies House. You’ll work with the external accountant and Board to ensure income and expenditure are in line with our plans and will work to understand any variances.
Person specification:
• Passion for resilience - share your knowledge and experience – have your say – shape our future - giving back.
• Willingness to devote the necessary time and effort
• Integrity, good and independent judgement and willingness to speak their mind
• Understanding and acceptance of the role and responsibilities of treasurer
• Ability to work effectively as a board member to take decisions for the good of Scottish Continuity and their members
• Previous Board experience is not essential as training will be given
Commitment:
• The Board meet monthly (virtually) for an hour and ramp up those meetings to weekly before the conference and learning events.
• There is an Annual AGM (approx 90 minutes).
• There is a one-day annual conference, generally in February, and 2 to 3 smaller online learning events and 2/3 breakfast briefings per year (both physical and online).
• We’re a sociable Board and enjoy meeting up, usually after the AGM or around an event, at the pub.
Scottish Continuity are committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion, and we welcome applications from all sections of the community. Previous board experience is not essential and you do not need to have worked in resilience roles for decades to apply. We encourage conversations in advance of an application being submitted. Please contact Tommy Lynch for an informal chat via email treasurer@scottishcontinuity.com. If you think this could be the opportunity that you are seeking, please email a CV and short covering letter to secretary@scottishcontinuity.com.
Deadline: 29 November 2024.
Everyone on the board is really looking forward to working with you!
